My raison d’être

Sherry Laskin Travel Writer Thinking back to the stone age of television, there was a local program in Chicago called Passport to Adventure.  This was a black-and-white travelogue dedicated to armchair travelers.  I was mesmerized as the host took us to so many faraway places; the exotic Taj Mahal, forbidden French Polynesia and a dangerous African safari.  I couldn’t pedal my pink and white Schwin much farther than the school playground but Passport to Adventure could transport me anywhere in the world.  My culinary needs to accompany that show were simple: a white-icing-squiggled Hostess cupcake and an orange Kool-Aid drink.  There was no where to go but up.

Fast-forward only a few years and I was with my parents on my first cruise.  We were aboard the 18,000 ton MS Matsonia on a five-day transpacific crossing from Los Angeles to the port of Honolulu, Oahu in the new state of Hawaii.  Not only was this in the pre-Jones Act era,  Disney Land was touting their A-E ticket booklets.

Traveling became my obsession.  Cruising became my passion.

Four decades later, I have set foot on four continents, completed nearly one hundred cruises and visited forty-five of the fifty United States.   I write about my travels, adventures and thoughts along the way.   Always a camera in hand, HD videocam in pocket and paper & pen close by, I travel geek-like; comfortable in knowing I will be able to share my experiences with readers through print,  photos and short video clips.
